The zondacrypto affair - what do we know about Przemysław Kral's move to Israel?
The case of Przemysław Kral, CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange zondacrypto, has gripped the public and the cryptocurrency market in Poland for several weeks. New findings by Wirtualna Polska journalist Szymon Jadczak shed further light on circumstances that may point to a planned relocation of the CEO to Israel. The key piece of evidence is an invoice for construction services found in Kral's private office in Monaco.
The document, issued in April 2026 for 64,000 Israeli shekels (approx. PLN 77,000), refers to a specific address in Caesarea - an exclusive seaside town between Tel Aviv and Haifa, famous for its luxury villas. Although the invoice does not name the buyer, the very fact that it was in the office of a cryptocurrency exchange CEO raises serious questions.
Another significant circumstance is that Przemysław Kral has held an Israeli passport since 2025. In terms of international law, dual citizenship can make any extradition considerably more difficult, because Israel as a rule does not surrender its own citizens to other states. This is an aspect that Polish law enforcement authorities will certainly analyse.
Cryptocurrency transfers worth USD 21.2 million - what does the on-chain analysis say?
Just as important as the Israeli lead are the findings concerning cryptocurrency flows from zondacrypto. The analytics firm Recoveris carried out a detailed on-chain analysis, which revealed a worrying pattern of transactions between December 2025 and April 2026.
The key findings on the cryptocurrency transfers:
- 511 transfers were made from zondacrypto wallets to the Kraken exchange in less than five months.
- The total value of the funds transferred was approx. USD 21.2 million.
- The reserves in the company's main bitcoin wallet fell practically to zero over this period.
- The CEO revealed that he does not hold the private keys to 4,503 BTC held in one of the wallets allegedly belonging to zondacrypto.
From a legal perspective, operations of this kind may provide grounds for charges of misappropriation of property (Article 284 of the Criminal Code) and, if action to the detriment of clients is confirmed, also fraud (Article 286 of the Criminal Code). The systematic removal of funds in the period immediately preceding the CEO's departure strengthens the hypothesis of premeditation.
Legal consequences - criminal and civil liability of the management board
The zondacrypto case has both a criminal-law and a civil-law dimension. The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Katowice, which is conducting the proceedings, is analysing the financial flows and the actions of the company's management board. In April 2026, the police entered the company's office in Katowice, which indicates an advanced stage of procedural steps.
Potential criminal charges
In cases of this type, law enforcement authorities most often consider several legal classifications. Misappropriation of entrusted funds on a large scale is punishable by up to 10 years' imprisonment. If it is confirmed that clients were deliberately misled about the state of the platform's reserves, fraud also comes into play, which carries a similar penalty. Charges relating to money laundering (Article 299 of the Criminal Code) cannot be ruled out, particularly given the use of a foreign exchange as an intermediary in the transfers.
Civil claims of injured users
Regardless of the criminal proceedings, injured zondacrypto clients have the right to pursue claims for damages through the civil courts. It is possible to sue both the company and members of its management board personally, if it is proven that they acted to the detriment of creditors. Subsidiary liability of management board members for the company's obligations is of key importance here, especially where a bankruptcy petition was not filed on time.
It is worth stressing that the fact that BB Trade Estonia OU is registered in Estonia does not rule out the jurisdiction of Polish courts. If the business was carried out in Poland and it was Polish consumers who suffered the loss, they may pursue their rights before Polish courts under the provisions of the Brussels I bis Regulation.
How can you protect your rights as a cryptocurrency exchange client?
The zondacrypto affair is another painful example of the risks of entrusting funds to cryptocurrency platforms. Users who have lost access to their assets should take immediate legal steps to protect their interests.
The recommended actions for injured parties include, above all:
- Filing a notification of a suspected criminal offence - the more people report the case, the greater the pressure on law enforcement authorities and the broader the scope of the proceedings.
- Securing all evidence - screenshots of transactions, correspondence, confirmations of deposits and withdrawal attempts are key evidentiary material.
- Consulting a lawyer specialising in cryptocurrency law - given the cross-border nature of the case and the specifics of blockchain technology, professional legal assistance is essential.
- Monitoring the prosecution proceedings - injured parties may join the criminal case as aggrieved parties, which gives them access to the case files and the ability to submit evidentiary motions.
- Considering a class action - where there are many injured parties, joint action can reduce costs and increase the effectiveness of pursuing claims.
The zondacrypto case also shows how important cryptocurrency market regulation is. The implementation of the MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) regulation in the European Union is intended precisely to prevent situations like this by imposing transparency, reserve and consumer protection obligations on platforms.
